Community Advisory Board Meeting | August 11th

The newly appointed LRSD Community Advisory Board's first meeting will be August 11th at 5:30 at the LRSD Student Center, 810 West Markham. 

The State Board of Education approved the list of names recommended by Commissioner Johnny Key to serve as LRSD Community Advisory Board (CAB) members.  The CAB consists of representatives from each of the seven (7) LRSD school zones.  Members and their zones are listed below:

Chauncey Holloman – Zone 1

Maria Chavarria-Garcia – Zone 2

Melanie Fox – Zone 3

Jeff Wood – Zone 4

Larry Clark – Zone 5

Anthony Hampton – Zone 6

Freddie Scott – Zone 7

Members will serve under the supervision and direction of the commissioner until LRSD is returned to local control, or until the State Board annexes, consolidates, or reconstitutes the school district.  The CAB will meet monthly with the superintendent, conduct hearings and make recommendations for student and personnel hearings, build community capacity, and submit reports to the State Board and Commissioner of Education.  Meetings will be held in the LRSD Student Center, 810 W. Markham, on the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. (Any changes to the date, time or location will be announced.)

The CAB will host its first meeting on Thursday, August 11, 2016.

Day of Action: Yard Sign Canvassing

Join us THIS Saturday to help spread the word about #StandUp4LR. We will go door-to-door and tell people about the coalition, and ask them to get involved. We will also be asking neighbors to support our schools by placing a sign in their yard.

Little Rock Superintendent Mike Poore is hosting a breakfast for the Partners in Education at Forest Heights on August 4th at 8:30.  This is an opportunity to talk to businesses about participating in our work to ensure every student in Little Rock has the opportunity to learn. Space is limited and you need to RSVP with VIPS@lrsd.org.

Little Rock Area Public Education Stakeholder Group

The stakeholder group working on collaboration between traditional public schools and charters will meet at 5 p.m. The meeting will be held at the SBE board room or you can watch online here:http://www.arkansased.gov/state-board/watch-meeting-live
